Share photos

If you are like me, your computer has several pictures and videos stored on it. These may be from family occasions - when your baby was born, took her first step, graduated from high school. Or from events - weddings, ball games, vacations, and camping trips. You probably have painstakingly organized them in several folders.

Now what? How do you share them with others? Using web-based email is unthinkable because it considers your pictures and videos as unfriendly 'attachments' that must comply within limits of file size and number. While you may be able to attach six to eight pictures to the email, videos are absolutely out.

You can upload the lovely photos of the bride and groom on a public photo-sharing site. Once you are done with the upload process; a patience requiring task that may need active monitoring, you invite your friends to view these pictures by emailing them a link.

While Photo-sharing sites make it possible to share pictures with your friends and family, your friends never quite get the pictures. They are simply able to see them, usually in low resolutions, within the borders and confines of cluttered browser pages. And while they may see the pictures, they will not be able to see the accompanying video of the best man making his speech. For that you will have to follow a similar process and put your private videos on a video sharing site. Such sites may also have limitations on size, display the videos in low resolutions, and require the painful uploading process. Additionally, you cannot completely control the privacy of the pictures and videos you put on these public websites.

It makes you wish for a simple and easy to use solution that makes sending pictures, videos and other files as easy as emailing; a solution that has the ease, privacy and convenience of simply sending someone a delightful box of digital pictures and videos.

Fortunately, I ran across an application the other day that lets you do just that. It is called Otengo. It lets you send entire folders of pictures, videos and any other files hassle free. Simply click to create a New Message, enter recipient email addresses, drag and drop pictures, videos or entire folders, and click Send. You can send messages to anyone with an email address, including multiple recipients. Otengo look and feel is that of the familiar Windows Explorer and it takes seconds to download and install.

Best of all, Otengo is free to use. All users who sign up for Otengo now, while they are in their beta phase are guaranteed lifetime usage of Otengo for free. Sign up now before the beta ends! I just did.
